What the law says
Violators are 'subject to the penalty for professional gambling, as provided in subsection (b) of section 53-278b' — currently a class A misdemeanor per the published General Statutes (press reports of a Class D felony are unconfirmed against the statute text). Simulated gambling devices used in violation are common nuisances subject to seizure (§53-278c), premises are nuisances (§53-278e), and any violation of subsection (a) is an unfair or deceptive trade practice under CUTPA (§42-110b).

Connecticut questions
Are sweepstakes casinos legal in Connecticut?
State law prohibits dual-currency sweepstakes casinos here. Authority: Conn. Gen. Stat. §42-301 as amended by Public Act 25-112, §14 (Substitute S.B. 1235, 2025); penalty per Conn. Gen. Stat. §53-278b(b).
Can I still play free Gold Coin (GC) games in Connecticut?
Connecticut's action targets the dual-currency model: the Sweeps Coin (SC) side that can be redeemed for cash prizes. Free Gold Coin (GC) entertainment play, with no prize redemption, is generally not what these provisions prohibit. But many operators exclude Connecticut entirely in their own terms rather than offer a GC-only mode.
