What the law says

Violations — including operating, conducting, or commercially promoting online sweepstakes games, or supporting/facilitating/assisting their operation (§ 47-18-5902(b)(2), (5)) — constitute violations of the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act of 1977 and are deemed unfair or deceptive acts subject to its penalties and remedies (§ 47-18-5903). The act also removes the six-month limitation period for gaming prosecutions (§ 40-2-102(a)) and arms the AG with sweeping pre-suit investigative demand powers (§ 8-6-409, $1,000-per-document spoliation penalties); underlying criminal gambling offenses under Title 39 ch. 17 part 5 remain in addition.

Tennessee questions

Are sweepstakes casinos legal in Tennessee?

State law prohibits dual-currency sweepstakes casinos here. Authority: Tenn. Code Ann. §§ 47-18-5901 to 47-18-5904 (Public Chapter 1117 (2026), SB 2136/HB 1885); 'gambling' per § 39-17-501.

Can I still play free Gold Coin (GC) games in Tennessee?

Tennessee's action targets the dual-currency model: the Sweeps Coin (SC) side that can be redeemed for cash prizes. Free Gold Coin (GC) entertainment play, with no prize redemption, is generally not what these provisions prohibit. But many operators exclude Tennessee entirely in their own terms rather than offer a GC-only mode.
