What the law says

Simple gambling (playing) is a Class C misdemeanor (§ 13A-12-21); promoting gambling is a Class A misdemeanor (§ 13A-12-22); possession of a gambling device is a Class A misdemeanor (§ 13A-12-27), with forfeiture of devices, records, and stakes under § 13A-12-30. Pending HB41 (2025) would raise promoting-gambling and device offenses to Class C felonies (Class B on repeat).
